MONA

She lied to the mirror
brushstroked the truth
Men came to her door to be loved
she acquiesced
Tenament slum
garbage can lined
Dreamt of times
Beyond the coast
Lazily, lying
Next to the church
white on the hill

Now lived by stretches
imagination and branches
Love imagined
trees of guilt
Nuances of hope
revealed in sunsets and dawns
of scarlet and red
Cannot sleep
beyond the rest
Cannot leave
bereft

New York street sillhouette
street light, stop light
Predawn, hasty lovers quarrel
and stumble toward the haze
Day struggles to pretend
it's supposed to be here
The night disappears
Dawn happens

If you transpose love into the equation of life
You get chaos which works itself out
Yes, there is fallout
Pain and doubt, questions abound
Just tell me the truth, even if it hurts
Sombre rain
I have looked at death which wants death
Wants itself
Becomes routine, walking away
